3D TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED TO THE FABRICATION OF CUSTOMIZED INTRARADICULAR POSTS IN RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

The evolution of digital dentistry has promoted significant advances in Restorative Dentistry, especially in the development of three-dimensional technologies applied to the rehabilitation of endodontically treated teeth. In this context, customized intraradicular posts fabricated through CAD/CAM systems and 3D printing have emerged as promising alternatives to conventional methods due to their superior anatomical adaptation, biomechanical potential, and clinical predictability. This study aimed to review the literature regarding 3D technologies applied to the fabrication of customized intraradicular posts in Restorative Dentistry. To this end, a narrative literature review was conducted through searches in the PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases, including studies published between 2015 and 2025. Articles related to CAD/CAM technologies, 3D printing, biomaterials, intraradicular adaptation, mechanical resistance, and adhesion of customized posts were selected. The findings demonstrated that three-dimensional technologies provide advantages related to adaptation precision, reduction in resin cement thickness, improved stress distribution, and optimization of the digital clinical workflow. However, limitations associated with operational costs, professional training requirements, and the lack of long-term clinical studies remain evident. It can be concluded that 3D technologies applied to the fabrication of customized intraradicular posts represent an important innovation in contemporary Restorative Dentistry, contributing to greater clinical predictability, structural preservation, and advancement of digital dentistry.
