Work-related musculoskeletal disorders represent an important occupational health problem, especially in activities characterized by static postures, repetitive movements, and high demands for manual precision. In the beauty sector, makeup artists stand out due to long periods of standing and ergonomic limitations in their work environment. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among makeup artists working in São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil, and their relationship with labor, ergonomic, and professional satisfaction characteristics. This was a quantitative, observational, cross-sectional study conducted with 70 makeup artists between August and November 2024. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire addressing sociodemographic, labor, and ergonomic aspects, along with the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. The results revealed a high prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms, with 98.6% of participants reporting at least one symptom in the previous 12 months. The most affected body regions were the lower back, upper back, neck, shoulders, and ankles/feet. Most participants reported standing for more than four hours per day, performing repetitive hand and wrist movements, and using furniture with ergonomic limitations. Despite the high occurrence of symptoms and reported functional impact, a high level of professional satisfaction and low demand for health care were observed. It is concluded that makeup artists are significantly exposed to ergonomic risk factors, highlighting the need for preventive and health promotion strategies tailored to this professional category.
