Accidents cause physical and emotional harm and are generally characterized as unintentional and, often, unpredictable. Accidents are common among children and most frequently occur at school. The most recurrent types are falls, cuts, fractures, and traumas, which have had a significant impact on the increase in child mortality. It is important to highlight the need for early childhood and elementary education professionals to be in continuous training and, therefore, prepared to provide assistance in these situations. This research aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of professionals at these levels of education when faced with accidents in the school environment. For this purpose, a quantitative, descriptive, and analytical approach was used, involving 27 employees from a municipal school in the city of Imperatriz-MA. Data was collected through a questionnaire divided into three sections: "participant profile," "knowledge," and "attitudes and practices in the face of accidents." The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee CEP/Conep. The results revealed that most participants were between 45-54 years old, female, and had more than 10 years of professional experience. Regarding the "knowledge" section, most correct answers concerned deep cuts, with falls being the most prevalent type of accident. There was no association between confidence in providing first aid and the number of training sessions attended or years of service. It is concluded that experience alone does not guarantee teachers’ self-confidence in emergency situations, making it necessary to provide training for these professionals.
