Morpho-anatomical and histochemical parameters from the rhizomes of Arundo donax L., were determined aiming the diagnosis for the botanic quality control of the rhizomes of Arundo donax as a plant raw material. Among the morpho-anatomical characteristics that contribute for the authenticity of these rhizomes it can be highlighted: the unistratified epidermis with persistent cuticle, the cortical parenchyma with starch grains, the sclerenchyma sheath immediately under the epidermis and still delimiting the central cylinder, the vascular bundles (open and closed ones) taking an actatostelic disposition and the vessel elements with reticulated wall thickenings. On the other hand, it is also remarkable the absence of trichomes, calcium oxalate crystals, secretory structures, and presence of flavonoids and saponins in sclerenchymatics fibres are remarkable. All this anatomics characteristics, when analysed in group, aid in the characterization of results of Arundo donax rhizomes in autentitity analysis.
