PSYCHOEDUCATION AS A STRATEGY FOR ADHERENCE TO PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT IN PATIENTS WITH SOMATIC SYMPTOM DISORDER: CONTRIBUTIONS TO CLINICAL PRACTICE

This study aims to analyze psychoeducation as a strategy to promote adherence to psychological treatment in patients with somatic symptom disorder (SSD), highlighting its implications for clinical practice in the context of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This is a qualitative bibliographic research study, developed through thematic content analysis of national and international scientific literature on psychoeducation, therapeutic adherence, and SSD. The bibliographic search was conducted in the SciELO, PePSIC, Virtual Health Library (BVS), and Google Scholar databases, considering publications between 2019 and 2026. Twenty-nine studies were selected after applying eligibility criteria, of which 10 comprised the main corpus of the analysis. The results indicate that patients with SSD present low adherence to psychological treatment, frequently associated with the predominance of biomedical explanations, resistance to psychotherapy, and fragility in therapeutic engagement. The analysis showed that psychoeducation promotes understanding of the disorder, reduces dysfunctional beliefs, strengthens the therapeutic bond, and increases the patient's active participation in the therapeutic process. It is concluded that psychoeducation constitutes an essential clinical strategy to improve therapeutic adherence and enhance psychological practice in the management of Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD).
