VIOLENCIA Y HOMICIDIOS EN ÁREAS RURALES: UN ANÁLISIS DEL DIFERENCIAL DE HOMICIDIOS ENTRE MUNICIPIOS RURALES Y URBANOS EN BRASIL

Este estudio investigó los impactos de la escasez de agua y/o los periodos de sequía extrema en las tasas de homicidios en los municipios brasileños, particularmente en los rurales. Se utilizó una encuesta de 769.774 puntos de datos que combinó información climática, datos socioeconómicos de las víctimas, tasas de homicidios y variables socioeconómicas municipales como controles, entre 2002 y 2020. El estudio también delineó un perfil de las víctimas de homicidio en municipios rurales para una comprensión más profunda del problema. Los resultados muestran que la escasez de agua y/o los periodos de sequía extrema aumentan las tasas de homicidios por arma de fuego en los municipios rurales de Brasil, con tasas de homicidios más altas en la región que conducen a mayores efectos observados. En resumen, existen indicios de un fenómeno de interiorización del crimen, especialmente en municipios predominantemente rurales.
