VIOLÊNCIA E HOMICÍDIOS EM ÁREAS RURAIS: UMA ANÁLISE DA DIFERENÇA NAS TAXAS DE HOMICÍDIOS ENTRE OS MUNICÍPIOS RURAIS E URBANOS NO BRASIL

Este estudo investigou os impactos da escassez de água e/ou períodos de seca extrema nas taxas de homicídios em municípios brasileiros, particularmente nas áreas rurais. Utilizando uma pesquisa com 769.774 pontos de dados que combinaram informações climáticas, dados socioeconômicos das vítimas, taxas de homicídios e variáveis socioeconômicas municipais como controles, entre 2002 e 2020. O estudo também delineou um perfil das vítimas de homicídios nos municípios rurais para uma compreensão mais profunda do problema. Os resultados mostram que a escassez de água e/ou períodos de seca extrema aumentam as taxas de homicídios por arma de fogo nos municípios rurais do Brasil, com taxas de homicídios mais altas na região levando a efeitos mais expressivos observados. Em resumo, há indicações de um fenômeno de interiorização do crime, especialmente em municípios predominantemente rurais.
