This scoping review examines how green dynamic capabilities (GDC) shape green innovation in multinational corporations. Following the PRISMA-ScR protocol, we systematically reviewed 79 peer‑reviewed articles from Scopus and Web of Science and conducted bibliometric analyses grounded in Lotka’s, Bradford’s, and Zipf’s laws, lexical analysis via Iramuteq, and nonparametric correlations among GDC components. Research indicates that the field is growing quickly and becoming more unified (with a CAGR of 55.6%), with GDC mainly considered to be a driving factor behind green innovation. We identify four core components environmental sensing, resource integration, resource reconfiguration, and green absorptive capacity and find a strong positive association between reconfiguration and environmental sensing, alongside negative associations with green absorptive capacity, suggesting more selective external knowledge intake at advanced capability stages. Overall, GDC emerges as a strategic mediating mechanism linking firms’ environmental orientation to green innovation outcomes and environmental performance, while underscoring the need for more empirical, multi-method, and longitudinal research. We conclude by outlining research opportunities on measurement, boundary conditions, and cross-industry heterogeneity.
