Abstract

The increasing complexity of health systems has highlighted the need for care models capable of overcoming fragmented practices and strengthening integration among health professionals. In this context, collaborative practice in healthcare stands out as a key strategy to enhance multiprofessional performance and promote comprehensive care across different levels of attention. This article aimed to analyze contemporary challenges and potentialities of multiprofessional practice from the perspective of collaborative healthcare practice. This qualitative study was developed through a theoretical-analytical approach based on a narrative review of the scientific literature. The analysis revealed that interprofessional collaboration contributes to improved communication among professionals, strengthened patient-centered care, greater continuity of care, and enhanced quality of healthcare processes. However, organizational, cultural, and educational barriers that hinder the consolidation of collaborative practice in health services were also identified. It is concluded that collaborative practice represents a promising pathway to address contemporary healthcare challenges, provided it is incorporated as a structural guideline in work processes, professional education, and health management.
