ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY: A CRITIQUE OF THE TECHNOCRACY OF BIG TECH

This article aims to analyze the historical and political-economic processes that led to the development of Artificial Intelligence and surveillance capitalism, and their interrelations with democracy. It analyzes the historical processes that led to the creation of social networks and the extraction of data for social control and profit from a materialist-dialectical perspective. It addresses the hegemony of Big Tech and its alliance with the far right, and how these factors interfere with democracy and developing nations. The study is qualitative and exploratory, employing a critical perspective and a bibliographic review of books and scientific articles on the subject. In conclusion, it argues that the use of AI and the power of Big Tech can interfere with democracy and the sovereignty of countries.
