THE ARCHITECTURE OF BELIEF FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF LITERARY ANALYSIS: THE (MIS)PATHS OF JOÃO MOHANA AND THE CONTEXT OF THE 20TH CENTURY

The 20th-century paradigm, after World War II, fostered a contemporary trend marked by the impact of war on its psychological cause-and-effect relationship, in which the human psyche needed to reorganize itself. João Mohana's work *The Other Path* (1952) offers an important reflection on the literary trend of this period, marked by disparate patterns; revealing love as the unifying center that marks the transition from primitive unconscious chaos to a state of conscious order. The work raises questions about the impact of belief on literary creation and the (mis)paths that literature can offer in the task of exploring a complex subject. Based on the theoretical assumptions of Frye (1951) and Peterson (1999), this research aims to analyze the dialogical relationship between the architecture of belief and Mohana's literary production (1952 [1983]), taking into account the sociocultural context and the proposal of Frye's *Archetypes in Literature* (1957 [1973]). The path for this investigation is paved by a qualitative and exploratory research methodology, with an essayistic approach. The research explores the relationship between incompleteness and chaos in the social and psychological apparatus of human beings. After identifying the central myth of the search in the novel, we find that love in the work represents emptiness, outlining how the unconscious attempts to explain the human void that insists on appealing to a signifier.
