LAND TENURE STRUCTURE, PRODUCTION, MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY: THE SUBJECTIVITY OF FARMERS

The way rural properties are organized must be understood from several dimensions: cultural, economic, and geographic, and from which point it is possible to capture the relationship between the individual and the land and their traditions. Therefore, this study aimed to present some sociocultural characteristics of rural properties in the Caparaó microregion of Espírito Santo. Data collection resulted from interviews with 31 landowners, parents of students at the IFES Alegre Campus, Espírito Santo. The results showed that the Caparaó region has its land distributed across small properties, mostly dedicated to family farming. Although many children of landowners attend schools with agricultural traditions, precarious management models still exist. On the other hand, there is concern for soil conservation, management techniques, and sustainable practices.
