Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health challenge in Brazil, particularly in the Amazon region, where social, geographical, and cultural inequalities exacerbate the epidemiological scenario. This study aims to comparatively analyze the operational indicators for TB control among Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations living in Porto Velho, the capital of Rondônia, located in the Western Amazon, with a focus on the implications for public health policies. This is a cross-sectional, retrospective study based on secondary data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) for the period 2015–2024. The variables analyzed included clinical form, diagnostic tests, HIV coinfection, treatment outcomes, and treatment abandonment. The results revealed statistically significant differences between the groups, with poorer indicators among Indigenous individuals, especially regarding treatment abandonment and access to diagnostic tests. These findings highlight weaknesses in TB surveillance and care strategies targeting Indigenous populations, underscoring the need for public health policies that are more responsive to the sociocultural and territorial specificities of these communities. The study concludes that addressing TB in Indigenous contexts requires intersectoral actions, strengthened primary healthcare, and effective coordination between Indigenous and non-Indigenous health systems.
