Abstract

This article discusses the role of drone-based aerial surveying as a strategic tool for the implementation of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), using as a case study the area surrounding a public school located in the Sol Nascente housing sector, in Ceilândia (Federal District, Brazil)—a territory characterized by socio-environmental vulnerability and a deficit of green infrastructure. The aerial survey produced high-precision technical outputs, such as orthomosaics, Digital Surface Models (DSM), and Digital Elevation Models (DEM), which provided essential information for the spatial planning stages of mitigation actions. The research integrated geospatial technology, participatory planning, and critical literature on urbanization and socio-environmental justice, demonstrating that the combination of technical data and community demands fosters climate adaptation, the design of resilient educational spaces, and the strengthening of the relationship between school, community, and territory. The results highlight the replicable nature of the methodology, which is aligned with national guidelines for environmental education and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The aerial survey produced high-precision technical products, including orthomosaics, DSMs, and DEMs, derived from 802 images captured by a multirotor UAV at an altitude of 58.9 m, with a spatial resolution of 2 cm/pixel and horizontal accuracy of less than 5 cm. These products supported territorial analysis and the proposal of sustainable interventions, considering the implementation of Nature-Based Solutions such as educational gardens, green drainage corridors, and rain gardens.
