TERAPIA ELECTROCONVULSIVA EN EL TRATAMIENTO DE LA IDEACIÓN SUICIDA

Resumen

Objetivos: Este trabajo ofrece un análisis detallado de las ventajas y desventajas de la TEC, sus fundamentos teóricos y prácticos, mecanismos de acción, ética y seguridad de la práctica, guías clínicas y práctica basada en la evidencia. Resultados: La evidencia sugiere que los beneficios de la TEC pueden extenderse hasta 12 meses después del tratamiento, estabilizando el estado de ánimo y reduciendo la recurrencia de la ideación suicida. Sin embargo, se enfatizó la necesidad de más investigación sobre los efectos a largo plazo y los posibles efectos adversos. Estos efectos adversos, anteriormente una preocupación importante asociada con la TEC, se han mitigado significativamente mediante el uso de protocolos modernos que incluyen anestésicos y relajantes musculares, ajustes precisos en la dosis de energía y un control cuidadoso de la colocación de los electrodos. Conclusión: La terapia electroconvulsiva (TEC) es una intervención terapéutica que ha demostrado eficacia en el tratamiento de la ideación suicida, especialmente en casos refractarios a otros enfoques.
