Resumo

Os microplásticos são poluentes emergentes amplamente distribuídos e persistentes no ambiente marinho, representando uma crescente preocupação científica. Esponjas marinhas, por serem organismos bentônicos filtradores, acumulam partículas presentes na coluna d’água e tornam-se importantes bioindicadores da contaminação. Este estudo identificou e quantificou microplásticos em esponjas do gênero Tethya coletadas em áreas recifais das praias de Boa Viagem, Paiva e Porto de Galinhas, no litoral de Pernambuco. As amostras foram coletadas manualmente na maré baixa e analisadas no Laboratório de Estudos Ambientais do IATI, seguindo protocolo de digestão da matéria orgânica, filtração e triagem sob microscopia estereoscópica. Todas as esponjas apresentaram microplásticos, totalizando 1.806 partículas, com predominância de fibras, especialmente de coloração azul, sugerindo forte influência de fontes antrópicas urbanas e turísticas. Boa Viagem apresentou a maior concentração de partículas. Os resultados confirmam Tethya como um eficiente modelo biológico para biomonitoramento, evidenciando a necessidade de ações mitigadoras na costa pernambucana.
