ECOSYSTEM THINKING IN CAPRA AND THE LIMITS OF SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL CRITIQUE

Abstract

This article proposes considering the link between the discourse of systemic ecology and the critique of political economy as a critical approach to Environmental Education. The article has a compilative motto and tried to list the premises of a concern that is little attended to. It is synthetic material, indicative of a prolegomenon with the possibility of being expanded. The methodological procedure it focuses on considers, respectively, the existence of the external world demonstrated and not shown by the mechanistic analytical method, elevated to the status of absolute truth and sentenced by the act of thought; the effort of systemic ‘good thinking’ to break the logic of irrational rationalism of truths established from the interconnectivities between the parts and the whole through the understanding of reciprocal chains of interaction; Finally, notes will be made related to the limits of ecological-systemic criticism and its contemporary socio-environmental developments. Bearing in mind that the Cartesian analytical method proposes the fragmentation of knowledge, the concept of nature is reduced to servile resources for the production of goods destined for the reproduction of capital, however the proposal of the ecological/systemic paradigm is that of reunification based on the movement of life, including, obviously, the human figure, plural, diverse and complex, although it is limited to the individual, thus not reaching the institutions captured by the logic of capital.
