AMATEUR FOOTBALL AND IDENTITY: AN ETHNOGRAPHY OF THE FORMATION PROCESS OF THE MIRANTE ESPORTE CLUBE TEAMS IN PONTA GROSSA, PARANÁ

The objective of the study was to interpret and analyze the meanings and significance that shape social agents' identification with what it means to be Mirante Esporte Clube, seeking to understand whether this contributes to the maintenance of the club's activities. Thus, we opted for the methodological guidelines of ethnography, as they guide researchers in the interpretive process of the “point of view” and “worldview” of individuals belonging to the social group under investigation, through the interpretations of their symbolic practices. It can be inferred that the longevity of Mirante E. C. can be understood through internal disputes over the definition of the club's future project, permeated by affections and feelings of identification with the club's symbols. Thus, between the veterans' memories of the past and the subjective (almost mystical) hope that anything is possible through a group that recognizes itself as a family, the symbols, norms, and laws that govern this social space continue to be reproduced, symbolically legitimizing amateur soccer as an indispensable practice in the daily lives of these social agents.
