CAPOEIRA, READING, AND TEACHING FROM AN INTERDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE IN THE SHORT STORY GENRE: A PROPOSAL FOR THE APPLICATION OF LAW 10.639/03

Abstract

This work is based on the perception of capoeira as a potential interdisciplinary tool and an important possibility for education and application of Law 10639/03 in our schools. In this investigation, we take a look at the short story “Quilombo Cariri,” and our goal is to create other possibilities for the education of ethnic-racial relations by proposing a teaching sequence for high school, exploring capoeira through a literary artistic expression: a short story. Reflection on this theme arose from personal and professional experiences that pointed us to other possibilities for incorporating capoeira into schools beyond the discipline of physical education. The basis for this reflection stems from studies conducted by (ABIB, 2019), (COSTA, 2013), (CANDAU, 2013), (MATA MACHADO and ARAUJO, 2015), and (SILVA, 2020) on capoeira, education, and culture, associated with the study of interdisciplinarity conducted by (CIAVATTA, 2015). In formulating this proposal, we observe capoeira as a Brazilian cultural manifestation of African descent and, thus, we envision its contribution as an important possibility for education and application of the aforementioned law in our schools.
