EXPERIENCES, POTENTIAL AND CHALLENGES OF MANAGERS OF BASIC HEALTH UNITS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF RIO DE JANEIRO

With the implementation of the shared management model by the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Health Department (SMS/RJ), the position of Manager was created, responsible for the local management of the Basic Health Unit (UBS).This professional would be responsible for the local management of the UBS, organizing health services, monitoring the actions of the family health teams and carrying out technical-bureaucratic activities, with the aim of providing quality services and guaranteeing the principles and guidelines of the SUS for the entire population. The methodology was developed using a descriptive model with a qualitative approach and based on Minayo's assumptions. The results point to managerial obstacles experienced by the professionals, which include difficulties such as the lack of training for the position, weaknesses in intersectoral support and people management. In addition, there are a greater number of women in this position, with degrees in nursing and coming from internal hiring processes.The conclusions pointed to the need to configure the sectors involved so that the professionals can do their jobs better.
